Let The Piccadilly Circus Games Begin!

Today marks the launch of Round 1 in the Piccadilly Circus Games Competition 🎪, a long-running set of challenges that evolve through a sequence of phases as their focus shifts from L1 to the dapp layer.

The goal of the Piccadilly Circus Games Competition is to be as inclusive as possible and bring together the different members of the Autonity community (protocol engineers and developers, security engineers, quantitative analysts, node validators, etc.). Check out the website to view all round 1 challenge information.

The infrastructure of the Piccadilly Circus competition is made up of two test networks to separate concerns and develop as good a user-experience as possible:

Bakerloo: A testnet for developers building on Autonity: expect a smooth ride building your tools and dApps.

Piccadilly: A testnet for validators, infrastructure providers, and “hackers” on Autonity 👉 Expect a turbulent system, stress-tested from all fronts.

Structure

The games are structured around 4 streams running over 6 rounds. The rounds each have a specific focus, so the nature of the what the game is about evolves over time:

Initially, L1 foundations, including validator and platform infrastructure And later, dapp layer and L2 use cases and development of the overall ecosystem.

The four streams are

On-chain: Run a validator, test node infrastructure, interact with the chain and other peers programmatically.

Bug bounty: A community bug-bounty program rewarding the discovery of bugs in software and docs.

Developer: A set of developer awards, covering tools and use case dApps.

Education: A set of community development awards, covering social media, branding, and educational content.

Each stream consists of a set of tasks, and points awarded on tasks completion. The points awarded for a task scales with its complexity. Streams run independently of one another and keep their own scoreboard. Participants can view overall progress of the incentive game on a leaderboard that is updated daily.

Rewards

Subject to the Terms and Conditions, points can be claimed as rewards for participation in the competition. 50% of that total reward pool is allocated to the first three stages of the game.

The remaining 50% is saved for the game’s second three stages. Allocation will be influenced by what is found in the first stage of the game, but expect the lion’s share to be for use case dapps.

Rewards Distribution

Reward distribution is determined by points earned for successful completion of game tasks during the game run-time. Participants and stream winners will need to prove ownership of the account private key corresponding to their claimed Autonity address and will need to complete some KYC/AML processes prior to claiming rewards at the end of the testnet. More information on that can be found in the game T&Cs.

As part of reward distribution, an emphasis toward thwarting attempts to Sybil attack the network will not result in additional rewards. Rewards are attributed on a basis of an individual party that has passed KYC, not per entries on the scoreboards. Ultimately, the Autonity community reserves the right to maintain discretion in rewarding individuals as part of legal and compliance requirements.

Disclaimer: the Autonity Foundation and its partners may be involved in the testnet competition but are not eligible to receive any rewards.
